Supplying projects to Lino Department
  • Projects can be created in all above listed programs.  To minimize potential problems, it's best to create files in page layout programs instead of illustration programs.
  • Composite and separated laser prints to size are required.

Font Issues
  • If you use postscript fonts in your document, make sure you include both screen and printer fonts.
  • Printer fonts are not required if using true type fonts because they are considered outlined fonts.
  • For better imaging results use styled fonts instead of applying styles to the font in the program.

Image Issues
  • For optimum results in color, its best to convert RGB images to CMYK in Photoshop, rather then allowing the layout program to convert them automatically.
  • For optimum results in single color halftones you should convert all images into grayscale.
  • For proper color separation, projects with monotone, duotone, tritone and all other files using pantone colors, you must specify the exact color name that is used in the page layout program, including upper case /lower case and any spaces used in the name.

Example: CORRECT: Pantone 2035 CV                       INCORRECT: Pantone2035 CVU

Document Issues
  • Create projects in the final output size with at least 1/8 (.125) of an inch for bleed.
  • Add folding, scoring, perforating and die cutting marks as needed.
  • For trapping and troubleshooting purposes it is best not to embed placed art. These files cannot be opened to correct and or manipulate.
  • Make certain to use only one version of each color being applied, and delete all unused colors.
  • Do not use RGB colors when printing four color or pantone projects, as they will not separate into the proper color modes.
  • When creating multi-page documents, it's best to create them in numerical order starting with the cover as page one for imposition reasons

Quark:
  • In Quark, when creating files with Pantone colors, make certain that all Pantone colors are set to "spot colors" in the color edit menu.  If they are not, they will separate into process colors.
  • When setting up files in four color process make certain that the "spot colors" in color edit menu is unchecked.
  • To eliminate text flow issues on projects that need to be set up for printing in (multi pages), do not link the text boxes, as they will have to be unlinked for manual impositioning and they may reflow.

To eliminate confusion, include on the disk only the projects being done by The Copy Company.

Separate all files into three folder groups.
     1) Fonts      2) Links      3) Printer files

Include all fonts being used in the project. Programs will not ask for the fonts used in placed eps. files, so the fonts must also be included.

If you convert the text to paths, you will still need to convert all text in placed eps. files.

Include all Photoshop images and art in the links folder.

Include all final printing documents in the printer file folder.

The above information applies to all projects sent in as email.

SUGGESTED CUSTOMER SELF-CHECK BEFORE SENDING DISKS TO THE COPY COMPANY
For this self check you will be working from the disk.

Close all fonts being used on computer, including any fonts being used in the job by the system font folder.
Insert disk.
Open fonts from disk.
Open all printing documents from the disk. Check for bleeds and proper file measurements.
Link all art on the disk making certain that all art is updated and all the names for the art are the same as the placed   art.
Enlarge file to view text clearly. If you see bit mapped looking text it usually means corrupt font or screen font is missing.
Print composite and separated lasers. (required)
Save file
Check the lasers for content and proper color separation.

Following these simple steps will eliminate confusion and errors resulting in a superior finished product.
